2007—2008

Added microwaves in various Food Service locations to provide students with the capability of bringing in their own food.

2009

Reopened the newly renovated Student Health Centre and dedicated the facility to former Director of Athletics and Health Services, Greg Gavin.

This was the Student Government’s biggest Facilities Enhancement project to date. In 2012-13, the Student Health Centre was expanded to create additional treatment rooms as well as much-needed storage space. From 2014-2016, the Student Health Centre was rated #1 in the province for student satisfaction b­­­­ased on Colleges Ontario Key Performance Indicators. In fact, student satisfaction in 2015 was 19% higher than the provincial average!

2010

Launched a new Pay Direct Prescription Drug Service.

Provides full-time students with the capability of receiving an automatic reduction on eligible prescription drug purchases simply by showing their Student ID Card at any pharmacy.

2012

Completed the installation of 15 campus-wide hydration stations.

Reduced the sale of bottled water on campus. This process began in 2010 and Student Government distributed BPA-free reusable water bottles to students.

2014

Launched a Health Awareness Week.

Initiated and organized by Student Government Health Sciences Leader, Mahoganie Hines, to increase awareness of health services available to students both on and off-campus.

2015

Completed the installation of napkin disposals in all women’s washroom stalls on campus. This was a two year Student Government initiative based on student feedback.

2019—January

Launched Thrive Week at Loyalist which focuses on building positive mental health.

 The Student Government, with the help of Human Studies Leader Stephanie McKinnon, also developed Mental Health Tip Postcards for students. One side contains the Wellness Wheel with the seven aspects of individual wellness. The other side contains tips for fostering and maintaining good mental health including contact information for campus and community supports.

2019—September

Launched the My Student Support Program (My SSP).

Provides students at the Belleville campus with 24/7 access to mental health support. This program was expanded in 2020-21 to include the Bancroft and Port Hope campuses.

2020

Added birth control coverage to the Student Health Plan, thanks to Human Studies Leader, Jenica Hammett advocating on behalf of students the previous year.

2021

Hired a new Student Life Campus Nurse to provide additional care and support in the Student Health Centre.
